WDET Honored With Four Awards From The Michigan Association of Broadcasters

March 17, 2008 - WDET has been recognized for broadcast excellence by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) and brought home awards in four categories from the annual award ceremony in Grand Rapids last week. These most recent awards, along with increases in audience and revenue, add to the excitement of WDET's continued growth in 2008.

The station won top honors in the Community Involvement category for its participation and sponsorship of the Story Corps Griot Project - an oral history project dedicated to collecting the stories of African-Americans for permanent archive at the Library of Congress.

WDET was also recognized with Merit Awards in the following categories:

Mini-Documentary/Series - "Detroit 1967: A Turning Point." A special 13-part news series produced by WDET's news department on the 40th anniversary of Detroit's riot.

Special Programming - "Mother's Day Is Special." An hour-long special produced by WDET's Zac Rosen celebrating mothers and their special day.

Membership Appeals - "Year End Giving with Fred Grant, CPA." A series of on-air announcements with local CPA, WSU graduate and WDET member Fred Grant, explaining the benefits of the Michigan Tax Credit when a gift is made to WDET before the end of the year.
